I was lately seeing everywhere these words. Link bait. Now, I understand how exactly it works after seeing live examples and will provide you one of the most effective ones. Bait means to throw little worms to the sea to grab the fishes. In MMO world, it is the process of writing a spectacular controversial article to grab attention of other bloggers and dynamically spread your link through discussions and trackbacks. Cool yeah? Here is what I believe a link bait. Since I am writing on it as well, it is successful.

Seth Godin suggested to click ads to show your appreciation for the blog owner if the content that you read was good. It has fallen to the SEO and MMO community like a bomb and most people including A bloggers blamed him supporting click fraud and have given links to his blog and have driven traffic. Jackpot. Seo and Traffic ! Since, you have understood basically how the linkbait works, I will do my part and eat the worm by writing my opinions about the topic naturally.

First let’s look how the market in general works. We have three players. Publisher, Advertiser and Customer. The ideal is Win – Win – Win and it can be only provided in natural sequence. Customer sees a relevant ad, buys the product on the target and becomes happy. Advertiser sells, happy and finally we publishers get our commission, happy.

Suppose a situation that a small budget advertiser spends $5,000 for marketing a specific product with the expectation of 20% profits. So, he expects to earn $1000 but assume that these fraud and suggested tip clicks get from the budget $1500 with no sales. The result is a loss and most probably this advertiser will not turn to the system with this product, so publisher will not get his future opportunity cost commissions. Loss – Loss – Neutral what we have in the model in the long ru .

Seth has also a right part stating that “I never click on ads people” are wrong. I do agree with him. If you believe that you will benefit from the advertisement do click but not for the only solely purpose tipping the blog owner.

I will give a real example. Since I use statcounter.com’s free service for all my websites, should I click on their ads time to time to support because I think as much as they earn money, their service will continue nicely and I will benefit? Do you feel what’s wrong here in those ideas?

You can also benefit linkbaiting and get your part by linking to these posts including mine for sure Then someone else does it for you until it reaches to a point in the ground of the pyramid scheme. Faster you join better you get the benefit.

Unfortunately, making money online is a really difficult task. If you are not a marketing guru who can convert every 1000 visitors to $100 a day, you have to play the game according to the traditional rules. Rule #1 is simple but clearly explains everything. If you don’t have visitors you can’t make money. I will give you some clues (in no importance order) how I artificially increase my traffic when there is not enough Google search juice.

Don’t forget that these techniques are not for the long term but a quick and dirty approach to use for your specific pages to get cash as soon as possible. For example, you could be marketing an advertising network like Chitika etc. to get referrals as fast as you can.

• Use Google Analytics and look weekly where your visitors come to your specific page. Get the top list and stumble upon, digg them if you didn’t. If you have some time, post these articles using services like SocialMarker.com. You will get visitors as well because there are your links in those articles. If the traffic is from a comment you dropped before, write another useful comment on another popular article on the source site to refresh it.
• Use Facebook effectively. Create a page there and drop some useful content. Find some related forums and advertise your product page. Add new people from US cities to friend list. It is not hard but a little bit black hat. Find an attractive model photo, make your homepage to your ads page and your inbox will get hundreds of new friendship offers in a few day. Many of them will become your fans as well This is suitable especially if you are advertising a product page to get CPA cash constantly. It is quite popular in blackhat style moneymakers and Facebook seems to be not fighting with these evil money makers at all.
• Throw many Google Adwords campaigns on the network with the price of 0.01 dollar for a click with small broad word sets. Since most make money online bloggers are from Malaysia, Philippines and India limit the target to these countries. If your target page is a good opportunity to make money online, you will get back multiples of what you spend in terms of referrals.
• Do not check daily your earnings statistics for Adsense, statcounter or other income sources. Since you are not a media baron making millions of dollars, why to lose time with those little cash and dream for more. Don’t be slave to dreams. A weekly check is enough to see overall progress. Ok, it is a strategical thing, I admit.
• Do not waste your time writing usernames and passwords for the websites you extensively use each day over and over. Trust Firefox and save your information. It is quite useful if you use socialmarker because you don’t need to enter username and passes to every social network. This one is strategical as well.
• Don’t waste your Entrecard ECs in empty articles. Empty article is an article where you don’t get anything since you don’t have affiliate links inside. Instead, search for a profitable offer and if you believe you get many referrals chargeeeeeeeee with your 10,000 ECS in the network.
• Join free advertising networks like Mogado peel ads. This will bring a good click through rate because people wonder what resides under this cover.  Noticed the ads on the right top of my website?
• Advertise cheap on Adtoll with geo targeting. It is quite effective. There are many websites which you will pay only 0.01 for world wide traffic or 8 cents for targeted US traffic.
• Do not afraid to experiment with your money. I spend at least 10% of what I earn to increase my possibilities to earn more. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. The most important thing is it is calculated and in the budget.

As I said, it is a quick article (not strategical development) which I hope that it has given you some clues.

Actually, I was planning to write about Facebook ads and SocialSpark but happened very urgent thing (which I was suspecting though).  Finally, I managed to be banned by Google Adsense program. Another Update : Currently I use my friend’s Google code to support him. Anyway, Google will pay my all pending earnings which is considerably large. Later, I will write about the mistakes (evil actions) that resulted in ban. Because I used their ads in my all blogs, I had to change them with other CPC and CPM advertisement networks and it took almost one month to update efficiently. At that time, unfortunately I couldn’t write posts on my blogs. I see that Adbrite and Chitika are the best alternatives to Google Adsense, even performing better for some blogs. I can’t suggest Bidvertiser much because it didn’t convert well for me and I have given up with them.

What I would like to tell is that Google Adsense ban didn’t affect me terribly because I didn’t put all the eggs in one basket. Since I have depended heavily on Amazon, RocketProfit, CJ and other money program affiliates my income didn’t drop drastically. Now, I have more motivation and can write more freely on my blogs without fear.

Do not forget that Google isn’t the only way to make money online. I will tell you how you can make money which is a little bit far concept to many bloggers. That’s Russian Dating Affiliate programs and I will tell about more after my next post about Facebook ads and SocialSpark.

After a successful journey with Adwords for several blogs, I have almost come to limits there for my target audience on the profits. I need to increase my ad budget for further profit, so decided to use Facebook Ads and published an advertisement for $0,01 per click and a daily budget of $10 for testing. It awaits for approval. After this process, I will write about the results next week. It is a highly targeted ad, so I am hopeful with the results. We will see.

Another experiment will be with SocialSpark. I have registered two blogs for testing there and will publish my opinions soon.  I can beforehand say that it is one of the most attractive designs and has the best functionality in “paid to blog” websites.

Most people think that when you get a top domain name with niche keywords inside, you will have more chance to be indexed in top search result pages of Google. It isn’t true if the niche you want to dive is overcrowded. For example, I tried to run an experiment with a domain name called as BestDealHostingWeb.com with a basic content. The result isn’t successful because there are tons of similar domain names with lots of content and are added every day. I need to put so much unique content but I can’t invest much time on it when the success is not certain. So, I then tried to get cheap traffic with Google Adwords, but because of the high keyword competition it resulted again in failure. Now, all I need to make at least $10 in a year for this website to compansate using other advertising platforms like entrecard and social network postings. $10 seems to be funny but if you continue to develop a network of let’s say hundreds of blogs and websites, even the minimum profit becomes really important.

Before buying a domain name, it is essential to make a basic niche search. According to my experience minimalism is the future for the small websites and blogs for survival. So, it is a better idea to open a website about volcanos of Mexico than simply web hosting offers because you will have easier traffic from search engines with much less content and efforts.
